I may not express it enough on the blog, but I’m a big football fan.
More specifically, I’m a huge college football fan.
And most importantly, I’m a Boston College football fan.
So, ladies and gentlemen, I thought it only appropriate that when I was invited to join a BC alumni flag football team this season that I join. With haste.
Nope, I’m not embarrassed by that picture.
I am currently painting on my eye black for our first game of the season (I hope they play me as a linebacker! Put me in, coach!) so I end this as quickly as I began.

I’ve been reading a lot of articles lately about “superfoods”, like this one from Self Magazine
And this one from CNN.com.
Now (disclaimer alert), I’m not a registered dietitian or anything but the term “superfood” makes me wary. I think sometimes it gives people a false sense of security in their diets.
I think a lot of people think that if they eat a LOT of these so-called “superfoods” that they are guaranteed to get healthy and thin, and while they certainly are good for you it doesn’t mean that eating them exclusively will give you good health.
I also think that it’s really important to have variety in your diet because every food has different nutritional benefits and you want to make sure that you include them all. When people get so hung up on eating a “perfect” diet, they rely too heavily on the superfoods and neglect other fruits, vegetables, nuts, etc. and are missing out on a well rounded diet.
Just something that I was kicking around in my brain today.
What do you guys think? Any dietitians out there want to weigh in?
And most importantly, who’s excited for football season??
